Bio-humus «GreenTerra»
Vermicompost or Bio-humus is an organic fertilizer, obtained from the treatment of organic waste by earthworms (often Eisenia foetida and Lumbricus rubellus), bacteria and other organisms (insects, fungi, etc.).
During vermicomposting weed seeds pass through the body of the earthworm and lose their ability to germinate. In addition, compared to manure vermicompost contains much less Escherichia coli. The toxicity of heavy metals is reduced due to their transition to the soluble complex compounds, and becomes virtually inaccessible to plants.
Like all organic fertilizers, vermicompost improves soil structure and its water and physical properties. Vermicompost’s another significant difference from other organic fertilizer is it’s high content of water-soluble forms of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Micro-elements also get a more mobile form. Along with vermicompost are introduced into the soil earthworms and microorganisms required for its normal functioning, and the waste products of the latter, including plant growth accelerating hormones.
Applying vermicompost to damaged crops and planting.
If a little snowy winter led to partial damage of winter crops, planting berries, fruit shrubs and trees, then the recommended minimum application rate is of 500 kg per 1 ha. In the case of extensive damage the double of this rate i.e. 1000 kg per 1 ha should be applied. If garden strawberry plantings are damaged then each damaged shrub should receive 100 grams (1.5 cups) of vermicompost mixed with soil and watered. If shrubs and fruit trees are damaged the rate will be 2-2.5 kg per plant, mixed with soil and followed by copious irrigation.
